Three scores, two leaderboards
Skillpato measures a few different things, and keeps them separate on purpose — so grinding one number never fakes another. Here's what each score means and how to move it.
Each one measures something different
Ability, consistency, and competition — kept apart so each stays honest.
Skill Score
your abilityHow good you actually are, per topic (React, Docker, SQL…). It's difficulty-weighted accuracy: harder questions count more, and early answers are held back until you've proven a pattern — so it's credible from the start and can't be inflated by grinding.
This is the one that means "how ready am I," and it's a signal, not a certificate — the record we'd ever surface to a recruiter, and only with your consent.
XP & Level
your consistencyEvery correct answer earns XP, and XP only ever goes up — a wrong answer just earns nothing, never a penalty. Your XP is shown as a Level. It rewards showing up and practicing, independent of how good you are.
Great for momentum and streaks; it is not a measure of ability.
Ladder Rating
your competitive standingA chess-style rating that moves both ways — a right answer raises it, a miss lowers it — and fades if you stop playing. Everyone starts at the bottom and climbs by proving their level over many answers. No single answer can jump you up.
Purely for competition and fun. It's never shown to employers.
Leagues and the Global ranking
Two ways to compete — and yes, they're different. Leagues have tiers; the Global ranking is a number and a position.
Weekly Leagues
Bronze → Silver → Gold → Sapphire → Ruby
Every week you're placed in a cohort of ~30 people in your tier, ranked by the XP you earn that week. Finish near the top and you're promoted to the next tier; finish at the bottom and you're relegated — every Monday. You join simply by practicing.

Your rating + your position (#12, #103…)
One ranking for everyone, ordered by Ladder Rating. It leads with your rating number and where you sit overall — no tier names here. You appear once you've answered enough for a settled rating, and it resets each season so there's always a fresh race.
Ranked by Ladder Rating · number + rank, no tiersHeads up: the tier names Bronze → Ruby belong to the weekly Leagues. The Global ranking doesn't use them — it just shows your rating and your place in line.
How to climb each one
Raise your Skill Score
Answer correctly — especially harder (MID/SENIOR) questions, which count for more.
Level up
Practice regularly. Only correct answers add XP, and a wrong one never costs you XP.
Win your League
Earn the most XP in your weekly cohort to land in the promotion zone by Monday.
Climb the Global ranking
Answer well, consistently. Progress is gradual and steady — and stepping away lets you slip, so keep playing.
